  • 500g beef sirloin
  • 1 lemongrass stalk
  • 1 red chili pepper
  • 1 purple onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 tablespoon of MSG
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon of cooking oil
  • A handful of herbs (coriander, Vietnamese balm, Vietnamese perilla…)


  1. Cut the beef into bite-sized pieces and marinate with 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1 tablespoon of salt, 1 tablespoon of black pepper, and 1 tablespoon of cooking oil. Mix well and let it sit for about 30 minutes.
  2. Finely chop the lemongrass and red chili pepper.
  3. Finely chop the purple onion and garlic.
  4. Heat the cooking oil in a pan and sauté the purple onion and garlic until fragrant.
  5. Add the beef and stir-fry until it is cooked and has a nice color.
  6. Add the lemongrass and red chili pepper to the pan and stir-fry with the beef.
  7. Add 1 tablespoon of MSG and stir-fry for about 1-2 minutes.
  8. Sprinkle some herbs on top of the dish to enhance the flavor.
