How to Make Delicious Shrimp and Meat Hủ Tiếu

Hủ tiếu is a popular dish in Vietnam, especially in the southern region. This dish is very diverse with many variations, one of which is shrimp and meat hủ tiếu. This dish is not too difficult to make, but requires some patience to prepare the broth and toppings. Here is the recipe to make delicious shrimp and meat hủ tiếu.

Ingredients:

  • 500g hủ tiếu noodles
  • 300g pork bones
  • 200g shrimp
  • 200g pork belly
  • 1 onion
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tablespoon of fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of pepper
  • Green onions, cilantro, and fried garlic for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Blanch the pork bones in boiling water for a few minutes, then rinse under cold water and drain.
  2. Peel and devein the shrimp, then set aside the shells.
  3. Cut the pork belly into thin slices and set aside.
  4. In a pot, add the pork bones, shrimp shells, 1 chopped onion, 3 cloves of garlic, and enough water to cover everything. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours.
  5. Strain the broth through a fine-mesh sieve and discard the solids.
  6. Season the broth with fish sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, salt, and pepper to taste.
  7. In a pan, sauté the sliced pork belly until browned and cooked through, then set aside.
  8. In the same pan, sauté the shrimp until cooked through, then set aside.
  9. Cook the hủ tiếu noodles in boiling water until they are soft, then drain and rinse under cold water.
  10. To serve, divide the noodles between bowls and top with sliced pork belly and shrimp. Ladle the broth over everything, then garnish with green onions, cilantro, and fried garlic.
