Ingredients:

  • 500g beef (sirloin, flank, or ribeye), thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • Vegetable oil for cooking
  • Optional garnishes: sliced spring onions, chopped cilantro, sliced chili peppers

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Beef:
    • In a bowl, combine the thinly sliced beef with soy sauce, fish sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, minced garlic, and a pinch of freshly ground black pepper. Mix well to ensure the beef is evenly coated with the marinade. Allow the beef to marinate for at least 15-30 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  2. Prepare the Vegetables:
    • While the beef is marinating, thinly slice the onion and bell pepper, and julienne the carrot. Set aside until ready to use.
  3. Stir-Fry the Beef:
    • Heat a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add a tablespoon of vegetable oil and swirl to coat the pan.
    • Once the oil is hot, add the marinated beef slices in a single layer. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until the beef is evenly browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the wok and set aside.
  4. Stir-Fry the Vegetables:
    • In the same wok, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil if needed. Add the sliced onion and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes until slightly softened.
    • Add the sliced bell pepper and julienned carrot to the wok. Stir-fry for an additional 2-3 minutes until the vegetables are tender yet still crisp.
  5. Combine Beef and Vegetables:
    • Return the cooked beef slices to the wok with the vegetables. Stir-fry everything together for another minute to combine and heat through.
  6. Thicken the Sauce (Optional):
    • If desired, create a slurry by mixing 1 teaspoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water. Pour the slurry into the wok and stir well. Allow the sauce to simmer for a minute until it thickens slightly.
  7. Serve:
    • Transfer the Stir-Fried Beef to a serving dish. Garnish with sliced spring onions, chopped cilantro, and sliced chili peppers for added flavor and color. Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.
